“DOLPHIN TALES”
by Dylan James Moore
Dylan James Moore (28) has shot countless analog photos since
discovering his grandfather’s camera, at 17.
Never in a hurry, but always on the go, photography is his way of taking a
second look at the world. To learn. To grow. As a photographer, but also as
a human.
Launching June 2022, “Dolphin Tales” is a visual diary of Dylan’s
encounters – the places he’s been, and the people he’s met.
Accenting the intimacy of this collection, of mainly portraits, is an honesty –
a rawness – that forces us to take a second look. Through Dylan’s
compositional and editorial choices, this set of images is far from arbitrary.
An undercurrent of 21st Century global social injustice can be felt between
these pages.
As a counterpoint, the story that inspired the book’s title suggests hope. In
2015, while volunteering at a Swiss refugee camp, Dylan met numerous
West Africans (some of whom agreed to appear in the book) who had
risked their lives in search of new beginnings. One man told of being
stranded aboard a refugee boat while crossing the Mediterranean. Before
long, a pod of dolphins appeared and guided them to shore.
The self-published book chronicles 10 years, and is limited to 48 copies.
